Relay for Life

Mac was out of town this week, he got home Thursday night.

Last night after work we went to Relay for Life in Norfolk, Virginia. Wow what a great job they do over there. There was a big dinner for the survivors and their caregivers, entertainment and they raffled off about 100 gift baskets...just for the survivors. They also gave them each of them a goodie bag which contained a Relay shirt, and lots of other little give aways. During the entertainment a few people got up and sang songs, one older couple got up there and he talked about how his wife lost her hair during her treatment and she was so upset by it. He wanted to dedicate his song to all the ladies who'd lost their hair which would reflect how he felt about his wife and what he felt about everyone who'd lost their hair too. She played the keyboard and he belted out "You Are So Beautiful". It was so sweet!

I think we walked about 2 miles on the track and we checked out all of the tents, signed up for some raffles. There were some great booths, the police had a couple of huge tents with a mock jail. You could donate $10 to have someone put in jail, and then the people in jail had to get people to donate money to get them out. Cute! One booth sold raffle tickets for their drawings and they had things like ski trips to Massanutten, etc. There was live music, a group of ladies that danced and a survivor that looked like Elvis...and he sang too. My favorite part is at the end when they light the luminaries, everything is quiet and see all the candles lit for people who have died and also those who survived.

Since we hadn't made arrangements to go to the event ahead of time, I didn't have the camera with me! I know, how is this possible?? Me without a camera? I have only one I took with my camera phone.

Here's our local cancer survivor, Valerie (at the survivor's dinner last night):

I just got a call from one of the raffles I entered and looks like we won a gift basket! Yippeeee

The weather last night was perfect, cool enough for me to wear a jacket. But today it's far from perfect, muggy and in the 90's! yuck

We're thinking about going for a bike ride today. Mac says he's about to make homemade french bread. mmm He rocks!

So I'm heading out to the garage to do some work. I've been here 3 years and I still have boxes and stuff in the garage! YIKES!

This is Relay for Life event time of year, and I strongly encourage everyone (if you're not already involved) to ck out their link and find a local event that you can participate in! It's always family friendly and you get to support something that's a very worthy cause.
