Relay for Life

Mac was out of town this week, he got home Thursday night.

Last night after work we went to Relay for Life in Norfolk, Virginia. Wow what a great job they do over there. There was a big dinner for the survivors and their caregivers, entertainment and they raffled off about 100 gift baskets...just for the survivors. They also gave them each of them a goodie bag which contained a Relay shirt, and lots of other little give aways. During the entertainment a few people got up and sang songs, one older couple got up there and he talked about how his wife lost her hair during her treatment and she was so upset by it. He wanted to dedicate his song to all the ladies who'd lost their hair which would reflect how he felt about his wife and what he felt about everyone who'd lost their hair too. She played the keyboard and he belted out "You Are So Beautiful". It was so sweet!

I think we walked about 2 miles on the track and we checked out all of the tents, signed up for some raffles. There were some great booths, the police had a couple of huge tents with a mock jail. You could donate $10 to have someone put in jail, and then the people in jail had to get people to donate money to get them out. Cute! One booth sold raffle tickets for their drawings and they had things like ski trips to Massanutten, etc. There was live music, a group of ladies that danced and a survivor that looked like Elvis...and he sang too. My favorite part is at the end when they light the luminaries, everything is quiet and see all the candles lit for people who have died and also those who survived.

Since we hadn't made arrangements to go to the event ahead of time, I didn't have the camera with me! I know, how is this possible?? Me without a camera? I have only one I took with my camera phone.

Here's our local cancer survivor, Valerie (at the survivor's dinner last night):

I just got a call from one of the raffles I entered and looks like we won a gift basket! Yippeeee

The weather last night was perfect, cool enough for me to wear a jacket. But today it's far from perfect, muggy and in the 90's! yuck

We're thinking about going for a bike ride today. Mac says he's about to make homemade french bread. mmm He rocks!

So I'm heading out to the garage to do some work. I've been here 3 years and I still have boxes and stuff in the garage! YIKES!

This is Relay for Life event time of year, and I strongly encourage everyone (if you're not already involved) to ck out their link and find a local event that you can participate in! It's always family friendly and you get to support something that's a very worthy cause.

Good times

Thursday night we had a wonderful treat! Mac's team gave us dinner at Sonoma Wine Bar & Bistro and tickets to see James Taylor at the Virginia Beach Amphitheater. WOW, it was great. Sonoma was beautiful!

Link to the bistro: http://www.sonomatowncenter.com/cms/home.php

If you click on the Sonoma menu, you'll see that at the top it says "Congratulations Mac and Cindy"...awww, how cute is that?!

Ck out our seats, suede oversized chairs, right next to an open fireplace with candles, lights, and bottles of wine...gorgeous

Then we hopped in the car and drove down the street to the amphitheater:

Just before it started:

Mac at intermission...on his blackberry? No!

We had a great time, the weather was perfect, in the low 70's. The music was great, he played some songs from his new release which is a bunch of cover songs of other people. They did an Elvis song, Dixie Chicks, & George Jones. We really enjoyed ourselves. Thanks so much to Kelly and the rest of Mac's team! =)

Friday night we had dinner at a new place called Salsa. I'm always looking for a good Mexican food place like back home in Texas, so far no luck. I'll keep looking.

Today I got up at 11! I haven't slept that late in ages. I was still catching up from Vegas. I try to leave in the mornings at 630 to head to work, while others (Mac) sleep till they want to get up. Mac made our coffee and we sat out on the deck and ate breakfast. We're having the most fabu weather! It was very nice out there. Then we decided to break out our bikes and take a ride. After airing up the tires and dusting them off, we hit the road and took a ride down to New Town. We rode almost 6 miles, and I could feel it in my legs big time. It was time to hit the grocery store, Mac wanted to make scallops and pina coladas for dinner. It was delicious. He rocks!

Now we're watching a documentary on the space program. It's pretty good, they have the astronauts on there and actual footage of everything that led up to Apollo 11.

Tomorrow we're supposed to go watch one of my co-workers race at Langley Motor Speedway. Start your engines!!

Tune in for an update later!

Back from Vegas

We made it home today about 430, then Mac dropped me off at ODU for my Monday night class. I got out of class at 8 and headed home. Mac made me some yummy egg salad for dinner, which I ate on a slice of toast. mmm mmm he's good!

Our trip was fabulous! We went to Vegas last Friday. We stayed at Bill's because I keep getting offers for free nights and we decided to take advantage of one of the offers.

View from our hotel room...

After checking in, we changed and went across the street to Bellagio to watch O. I really enjoyed it, Mac not that thrilled with it.

Us at the show...

One of the clowns in the show...

The show was over around 1230 ( which was 330 in VA) we walked down the strip for a while and checked out our casino then we hit the hay for a few hours.

This is our hotel, we were on the top floor, 3rd window from the corner...

Looking up at our hotel...

Our view during the day...

Breakfast at our hotel Saturday morning...

We drove out to Hoover Dam for a tour...

The gift shop had these cool shades...

Poolside...

This is our favorite hairstyle from the pool area...

Mac in my sunglasses, very hot...

After the pool, we did a little gambling...Mac playing blackjack...

Coffee and pastries in front of the Paris Hotel...

Later we walked around, more pool time and someone needed a little nap...with his wallet...

Lunch at the Paris patio...

We walked around the strip, had dinner at a local Mexican food place and crashed early since we had a 300 AM wake up call. =(

On the flight from Vegas to Atlanta, Delta has a trivia game you can play against other passengers on the screen in the seat back in front of you. Mac and I played and finally won a game! woooo

I'll close with a picture of Mac on his blackberry with Kelly. It wouldn't be a complete trip without one of these! LOL

We both made a little and lost a little and decided we probably came out even. No big winnings, but we had a great time!

Viva Las Vegas baby!!

Rain, rain...

We are drowning! It's been raining off and on all week and now it's pouring and we're in a tornado warning. Yuck!

Yesterday Mac and I drove up to Alexandria. We got lucky and sun came out just before dinner and we were able to walk around the main street (King St.) and check out shops and places to eat. We found the most wonderful place, they were just opening up their sidewalk and patio seating when we happened to walk by. We loved it! It's a french resturant called Le Gaulois Cafe (which means last gladiator)

Here's the link: http://legauloiscafe.com/index.shtml (click on gallery to see the pics, it's so pretty)

Enjoying the moment of sunshine.

Check out our slide show of our trip:
