Hello everyone!
Well, last weekend Valerie and I did our 2 day, 39 mile Avon Breast Cancer Walk in DC. While the official mile count is 39, Valerie and I agree that we walked at least an extra 3-5 miles each day! Walking to and from the start/finish lines and walking around our camp, which seemed like everything was no less than a quarter mile apart. I have no doubt we walked 45-50 miles during our 2 days. Whatever the case, we did it!
Here's how it went:
We started our journey at the Williamsurg train station on Friday morning

Valerie posing with her new boot! After fracturing her ankle the weekend before, she was styling in her hot pumped up boot.

We got cozy in the Business Class car...ahhh

And here we are in DC at Union Station, I believe I was meant to travel by train!

Up the escalator with our big bags

After lunch in Union Station, we hoped on the Metro to get to our hotel
Arriving at our hotel, Marriott near the DC Zoo

Martini for me and water for Valerie?

Awww, Mac sent Champagne and Choc covered Strawberries to our room
Yummy!

We got up at 4am...UGH...and got to the opening ceremonies

At the start of the walk, breakfast and stretching

Stretching?

Valerie's smaller sports boot for walking

And we're off! Over 3000 people were walking!

Valerie's sign she wore on her backpack

First bathroom break at mile 2.5 right in front of the Capitol Building...ck out the lines!

One of our colorful walkers...love his makeup!

Self explanatory

End of day one and 26 miles done!

Tent city at our camp in Meadowbrook Park in Chevy Chase, MD

A happy camper?

The Spahhhhhh Zone, foot and back massage...oh we loved this...

This is how Valerie had to sleep...poor thing!

Messin around in our tent after dinner.

Day two, putting our tent away in full rain gear!

And we're ready for our last 13 miles...in the rain...all day!

One of the stops they had set up for a break.

Oh yes, mile 10 of 13 baby! This was just before a taxi drove by and splashed us...nice!

WooHoooo, mile 13 (actually 39)

At the closing ceremony area...

Looking for my driver...Mac where are you???

Mac took us to On the Boarder for dinner....Megan met us once she got off work.

Oh yeah! You can't go wrong with a swirl!

Me with my right foot ace bandage and Valerie with her fractured/booted right ankle...what a team!

Our final toast! To US and TATAS!!

I'd like to thank everyone who contributed to the walk, I had a blast and it was a great experience. Our DC walk alone raised over 6 million dollars for breast cancer. It was amazing!
We've been having some crazy weather today. Beautiful morning, we layed out on the deck for a while and then went up to Barrett's in Colonial Williamsburg for drinks and dinner. As soon as we got home, it started getting windy and raining. Now we're in a severe thunderstorm warning and it's really nasty out there.
So that's about it for me. Just resting up this weekend. Lots of things coming up. Next weekend we're going to a wedding in North Carolina. We'll be in Texas in a few weeks and then Florida for a long weekend. After that Bre and Brandon will come and visit us and we're going to take them camping! weeeeee
Stay tuned. =)
