Countdown till the walk!

I have my new walking shoes, and I've been resting all week and doing some physical therapy, so I'm feeling great.
My new shoes! Yipeeee

This weekend we layed out on the deck and got some sun, went for a few walks in CW and Mac cooked us some great food for us to eat while watching the Washington Capitols vs NY Rangers Hockey baby!
Avocado Fries...found this recipe in my latest issue of Sunset magazine...mmmm so good!

Another one from CPK, Thai Chicken Pizza
So I'm ready for our 39 mile walk! We leave Friday for DC, Valerie and I are taking the train from Williamsburg up there and then over to our hotel. Saturday we start the walk about 8am...11.5 hours to walk 27 miles, then camp out over night in our tent city. Sunday we'll get up and walk the remaining 12 miles and attend the closing ceremony. Good times!
Mac will meet us for the closing ceremony and take us to dinner at On The Border for our celebratory margaritas! (and well deserved)
Keep your fingers crossed we make to Friday healthy! Valerie txt me yesterday that she twisted/sprained her ankle on the beach! She's icing and elevating and hoping to be ready by Friday. =)
I'll update when we get home Sunday night.

Update

Well...after our walk a week ago yesterday, I started having a pain in my lower left leg. I thought it was just sore from all the walking, so I've been icing it daily, soaking at night, but today my doctor said I may have a stress fracture. Soooo, tomorrow I have to call and make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor and have x-rays taken.

I'm trying to be optimistic! I hope this doesn't stop me from walking in DC. The walk is a week from Saturday, so I need all the positive thoughts I can get. =)

We literally stayed home all weekend. We layed out on the deck and got some sun on Saturday, and Sunday the only time I left the house was when I went outside to get Mac's paper.

Mac is home this week, and he's making chili for dinner right now. It's a little cool and rainy here, so chili sounds great!

That's about it from VA. We're so glad to hear that Trinity is doing so well and able to go home from the hospital! Go Trin! =)

Twenty miles and counting!

This past week Valerie and I have upped our week day walks from 6 miles to 9 miles. Based on our training schedule, provided by the Avon Walk organizers, we did a 20 mile walk yesterday. Yes, 20!

Two weeks ago we did 15 miles on the Noland Trail and it was a lot more rugged than sidewalk walking. I think that may have helped condition us! I mapped out a route that started at our house and walked down to Colonial Williamsburg and back through several neighborhoods, and ending at our house. It was a beautiful day, only in the upper 50's - 60's, which was perfect! We started at 11:05 and ended about 5:25, which stunned us! Just over 6 hours including 4 short breaks. Day one of the walk we have to walk 27 miles and they give us 11 and a half hours to do it. Based on what we did yesterday, looks like we'll be well under 11 hours.

Day two we finish up with 13 miles, and since we're doing 9 miles three days a week, this should be the easy part. =)

Somehow we're smiling, even after 20 miles! (I think we were glad it was over)

Ohhh, check out Valerie's pink tights! Fabu dahling...

When we got home, Mac was kind enough to feed us! He'd made a ham, scalloped taters, asparagus with hollandaise, rolls, and home made choc cake with home made choc butter cream frosting! mmmmmmm He is good! All that and I still lost 2 pounds. yipeeeeeeee
Mac is on the road this week, so I'll just be working, walking and sleeping!
So tune in next week. I think we'll do another 20 mile hike next Sunday. The week after that (which is the weekend before the event) our training schedule has us doing 6 mile walks.

April is here...

Valerie and I are into our training schedule big time for the Avon Breast Cancer Walk! Last Sunday we walked the Virginia Beach boardwalk for a total of about 10.5 miles...pic below of us getting started on the boardwalk:

Last Tuesday Mac went to New Orleans for a business trip. It was his first trip to N.O., so he got himself a Hurricane to drink and went to the Voodoo Shop. Below is what he bought at the shop to bring back and put on his desk. He has no idea why, he just thought it looked cool.

Thursday night was Martini Night...woohoooo. Me with Carrie and Matt. Good times.

Today Valerie and I walked the Noland Trail in Newport News. Wow, that is a beautiful place. Here's a link if you're interested: http://www.mariner.org/visitorinfo/park.php
Very cool! We walked 15 miles today...YIKES! =) 15 miles in 4 hrs and 50 minutes. WE ROCK!!
On my drive home I called my mom and she said that Kevin's daughter, Trinity, had been taken to the hospital in Fort Worth. At this time she's in a coma, and not doing well at all, so please keep her in your thoughts. I'll keep you posted.
Have a great week!
